The YMCA of the Black Hills is looking for a passionate, people-centered Group Exercise Coordinator to help lead and elevate our group fitness programs while advancing our mission of strengthening community. This role is ideal for an energetic and organized fitness professional who believes in the power of movement, connection, and inclusive wellness experiences. As a cause-driven organization, the Y is more than a gym. We're a place where people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities feel welcome, supported, and inspired to grow. The Group Exercise Coordinator plays a key role in creating a positive and engaging fitness culture by overseeing the delivery and quality of group exercise classes across our wellness programs. This includes planning and implementing safe, effective, and motivating class formats, developing fun and well-structured choreography, and ensuring programs align with YMCA standards and approved formats such as Les Mills and MOSSA. You will be hands-on in maintaining clean, organized, and safe workout spaces and will help ensure equipment is used properly and respectfully by both staff and members. Equally important, this role provides leadership and support to our rockstar team of group exercise instructors. The Coordinator recruits, onboards, schedules, and mentors instructors who reflect the YMCA's values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Through observation, coaching, and ongoing communication, you will help instructors grow in confidence, skill, and professionalism while ensuring required YMCA trainings and certifications are completed. By fostering collaboration and consistency, you will help create an environment where staff feel supported and members receive high-quality, welcoming experiences in every class. Member engagement is at the heart of this position. The Group Exercise Coordinator helps build strong connections with participants by promoting inclusive, friendly, and motivating class environments that encourage retention and long-term wellness. You will serve as an ambassador for the YMCA, clearly and positively communicating our mission, programs, and benefits while providing exceptional customer service rooted in compassion and respect. Safety and risk management are essential components of this role. The Coordinator is responsible for responding appropriately to emergencies, conducting regular safety checks of equipment and spaces, maintaining stocked first aid supplies, and accurately completing incident and accident reports in accordance with YMCA policies. Administrative responsibilities include tracking attendance, maintaining program records, and assisting with monitoring income and expenses within budget guidelines. Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age, able to safely demonstrate and assist with physical activity, and capable of lifting and moving fitness equipment. YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification (or the ability to obtain it within six months) and CPR/First Aid certification (within 60 days) are required. Strong communication skills, reliability, leadership ability, and a willingness to learn and grow are essential for success in this role. At the YMCA of the Black Hills, you'll find meaningful work, supportive colleagues, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact. If you are motivated by helping others thrive and want to be part of a welcoming, mission-driven organization, we invite you to join our Y team and help build a healthier, stronger community together.
