About The Position

The Group Aquatics Instructor at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee is responsible for leading high-quality group fitness classes while ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for participants. This role emphasizes the YMCA's core values and mission, focusing on member wellness and community engagement. The instructor will work under the direction of the Wellness Director or Group Fitness Coordinator and is expected to maintain certifications and keep abreast of fitness industry trends.

Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Teaching experience: under one year acceptable.
• One specialty certification preferred (Zumba, Les Mills, etc.).
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe and risk-free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of participants.
• Lead high-quality group fitness classes as directed by the supervisor.
• Provide an energized, fun, safe, and educational class experience.
• Begin and end classes on time.
• Exhibit a true team player attitude through support and concern for team members.
• Attend other instructors' classes at least once per month.
• Participate actively in fitness staff meetings.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Submit sub requests through the designated platform as needed.
• Report any accidents, injuries, or incidents to the MOD or supervisor immediately and document them.
• Clean and return all equipment to its proper place.
• Maintain current certifications and knowledge of fitness industry trends.
• Build relationships and interact with members.
