About The Position

The Groundworker position at Wright Tree Service is an entry-level, full-time role that involves various essential functions related to tree maintenance and safety. The Groundworker will use a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees, working primarily from the ground with gasoline-powered chainsaws. Responsibilities include loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris, as well as feeding brush into a wood chipper. The role requires gathering brush and carrying it to the chipper area, while working around hazardous equipment and excessive noise. The Groundworker must wear proper personal protective equipment and will be exposed to various weather conditions and nature. The position also involves enforcing safety practices, cooperating with local authorities when necessary, and maintaining a clean work area. Additional duties include driving a truck with an attached brush chipper, servicing equipment, and reporting maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
  • Must withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions.
  • Must communicate professionally with others.
  • Ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds infrequently and up to 30 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.
  • Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Maintain a herbicide applicator or operator's certification and license as required.
  • Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards.

Responsibilities

  • Uses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris.
  • Feeds brush into a wood chipper.
  • Gathers brush and carries it to the chipper area.
  • Works around hazardous equipment and excessive noise.
  • Enforces on-the-job safety practices for crew members.
  • Safeguards employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
  • Sets up barriers, warning signs, and flags to protect employees and the public.
  • Trained to perform tree and bucket rescue.
  • Applies herbicides and growth regulators to stumps and brush.
  • Drives a truck with an attached brush chipper or other trailing unit.
  • Keeps work area picked up and orderly.
  • Carries and lays out tools and equipment at the work site.
  • Services truck, chipper, and equipment, maintaining them in a neat and clean order.
  • Reports the need for equipment and truck maintenance to crew lead.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
