About The Position

The Groundworker position at Wright Tree Service is a full-time, non-exempt role that involves various essential functions related to tree maintenance and debris management. The role requires the use of chainsaws and other equipment to cut brush, logs, and stumps, as well as loading and unloading trucks with debris. Groundworkers must work in various weather conditions and around hazardous equipment, ensuring safety for themselves and the public. The position also includes responsibilities such as applying herbicides, driving trucks with attached equipment, and maintaining a clean work area.

Requirements

• Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
• Must withstand exposure to all kinds of weather.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions.
• Must communicate professionally with others.
• Ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds infrequently and up to 30 pounds frequently.
• Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.
• Must have a valid driver's license and pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Maintain a herbicide applicator or operator's certification and license as required.
• Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards.

Responsibilities

• Uses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees.
• Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris.
• Feeds brush into a wood chipper and gathers brush to carry to the chipper area.
• Works around hazardous equipment and excessive noise.
• Enforces on-the-job safety practices for crew members.
• Sets up barriers, warning signs, and flags to protect employees and the public.
• Drives a truck with an attached brush chipper or trailer.
• Services truck, chipper, and equipment, maintaining them in a clean and specified mechanical order.
• Reports the need for equipment and truck maintenance to the crew lead.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
