About The Position

The Groundworker position at Wright Tree Service is a full-time, non-exempt role that involves various essential functions related to tree and brush management. The role requires the use of chainsaws to cut brush, logs, and stumps, and involves working from the ground with gasoline-powered equipment. Responsibilities include loading and unloading trucks with logs and debris, gathering brush, and operating a wood chipper. The position also entails working in hazardous conditions, including excessive noise and exposure to various weather conditions. The Groundworker will help enforce safety practices, cooperate with local authorities, and maintain a clean work area. Additional duties include servicing equipment and reporting maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
  • Must withstand exposure to all kinds of weather.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend job instructions/information.
  • Must communicate professionally with others.
  • Ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds infrequently and up to 30 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.
  • Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Maintain a herbicide applicator or operator's certification and license.
  • Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards.

Responsibilities

  • Uses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris.
  • Feeds brush into a wood chipper and gathers brush to carry to the chipper area.
  • Works around hazardous equipment and excessive noise.
  • Wears proper personal protective equipment.
  • Safeguards employees and the public from hazards in the work area.
  • Sets up barriers, warning signs, and flags to protect employees and the public.
  • Trained to perform tree and bucket rescue.
  • Applies herbicides and growth regulators to stumps and brush.
  • Drives a truck with an attached brush chipper or trailer.
  • Keeps the work area picked up and orderly.
  • Carries and lays out tools and equipment at the work site.
  • Services truck, chipper, and equipment, maintaining them in a neat and clean order.
  • Reports the need for equipment and truck maintenance to the crew lead.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
