About The Position

The Groundwater Education Specialist at UW-Stevens Point is responsible for providing statewide outreach education on groundwater and water resources to various stakeholders in Wisconsin. This role involves developing and delivering educational programs, interpreting technical information for general audiences, and collaborating with Extension educators and local agencies to address groundwater concerns. The specialist will also focus on building relationships with stakeholders and securing funding for groundwater programming.

Requirements

  • A degree in water resource management, hydrology, geosciences, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated skills in data analysis and interpretation related to water quality.
  • Ability to communicate and present scientific materials effectively to lay audiences.
  • Experience building positive relationships with diverse communities and partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of relevant professional experience in water resources or drinking water quality.
  • A Master's Degree relevant to the position's focus.
  • Experience in developing and evaluating educational programming.
  • Knowledge of well construction standards and drinking water treatment methods.
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin geology and groundwater quality concerns.
  • Experience with geographic information systems and spatial analysis of water quality data.
  • Ability to write grants and establish partnerships for funding.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver educational programs and materials related to groundwater and water resources.
  • Counsel individuals and groups on well water testing and data interpretation.
  • Interpret technical information for general audiences.
  • Partner with Extension educators and state/local agencies to address community groundwater concerns.
  • Build trust-based relationships with stakeholders in the community.
  • Seek diverse funding sources to support groundwater programming.
  • Provide high-quality programming and leadership on groundwater and drinking water quality challenges.
