About The Position

The Groundsperson maintains the exterior of the campus, maintains and repairs college vehicles, and maintains and repairs grounds and fleet equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brake endorsement is required or must have the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Possess a State of Illinois pesticide license or have the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 70 lbs. on a frequent basis, and over 70 lbs. on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to continuously walk or stand, and frequently bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist; occasional sitting required.
  • Ability to work on lifts or ladders.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals related to facilities and installed equipment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Practical and demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and effectively handle competing priorities.
  • Ability to fully support the mission and values of the College.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the exterior of the College, including lawn mowing, cultivating flowers and trees, seeding, and spraying.
  • Repair and maintain College vehicles.
  • Repair and maintain equipment such as lawnmowers, tractors, sprayers, etc.
  • Perform all snow removal on campus parking lots, roads, and sidewalks.
  • Prepare the athletic fields, including spraying, fertilizing, and striping.
  • Build equipment as needed such as picnic benches, barricades, etc.
  • Repair roadways as necessary.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the prairie area as needed.
  • Transport heavy equipment for other departments as needed.
  • Demonstrate solid commitment to the Q-DIALS Program and participate in CLC goals and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate Service Excellence communication methods to ensure student success and build the College’s reputation.
  • Follow all institutional and regulatory policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Utilize self-appraisal to measure progress on performance goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
