About The Position

Charged with the maintenance, care and condition of campus grounds, gardens, walkways, parking lots and roads, ensuring the results exceed the expectations of the Property, Owners, and Guests. Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the management and/or supervision of a landscaping or grounds care operation.
  • Ability to climb, stoop and do medium to heavy labor and lifting.
  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license, be able to understand and follow directions and read, write and communicate verbally.
  • Candidates must provide a record of dependability and past work performance.
  • Candidates must possess computer skills adequate to work with computerized maintenance management systems and other computerized applications as assigned.
  • Candidate must have the ability to interact with Facilities staff, guests, and members of the community in a congenial, supportive, and service-oriented manner.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the landscape and grounds associates' performance is to SSI, including all beds, flowers, potted material, bedded material, artificial and natural lawns and designated furniture are clean and present well.
  • Responsible for training associates and providing detailed oral and written instructions to direct reports. Demonstrates proper use of equipment and materials and the performance of specific tasks to meet quality standards.
  • Responsible for assisting the Head Grounds Supervisor with managing administrative functions for grounds personnel, including project planning, procurement and purchasing services, personnel and employee relations, inventory and budget projections and analysis.
  • Picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate.
  • Responsible for directly supervising and coordinating activities of grounds crew engaged in landscaping or groundskeeping activities.
  • Leads, enforces, and participates in work place safety, including but not limited to safe working conditions, proper use of tools and equipment, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Manages execution of preventive maintenance (PM) program for all grounds facilities and equipment.
  • Schedules and assigns work crew to specific jobs and routinely spot checks worksites to ensure projects are progressing according to schedule and that materials and equipment are being used properly.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper and timely maintenance and service of all lawn related equipment. Services equipment and makes field repairs and adjustments.
  • Inspects, evaluates, and reports damaged equipment and deteriorating grounds facilities for work planning.
  • Monitors the work of landscaping contractors to ensure completion according to contract specifications.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments across campus in advance of various events to ensure seamless grounds support and continuity of grounds keeping operations.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the resort's operations and service to its guests by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a cross-functional team.
  • Assists the Head Grounds Supervisor with day-to-day management of work/shift schedules based on work priorities, associate availability, equipment and resources, and weather conditions.
  • Evaluates work performance of assigned associates. Handles employee relations issues, including counseling and discipline.
  • Maintains awareness to safely implement fertilizers, sprays, and dusts to control and eradicate pests.
  • Implements proper methods of planting, cultivating, and caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns.
  • Supervises snow removal processes.
  • Reports to Head Grounds Supervisor on the progression of all routine work and projects.
