As the Grounds Lead, you will help shape the outdoor environment of our campus year-round, ensuring every pathway, lawn, garden, and green space reflects pride, care, and attention to detail. Working closely with the Director of Facilities, you’ll provide leadership to the grounds team while remaining actively involved in daily operations. From maintaining vibrant landscapes in the spring and summer to ensure safe walkways and roads during winter weather, you’ll play a key role in keeping the campus both functional and visually inspiring in every season.

Requirements

  • Valid PA Driver’s License
  • Grounds Maintenance Expertise: Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in maintaining landscapes, including turf, trees, shrubs, and hardscapes, ensuring high standards of appearance and safety.
  • Proven Leadership Skills: At least one year of supervisory experience, with the ability to guide and motivate team members while ensuring efficient workflow and task completion.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Environmental Services teams to support cross-departmental efforts in keeping the campus in top shape.

Nice To Haves

  • Pesticide Certification Preferred: Valid Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead Daily Grounds Operations Provide daily direction, scheduling, and hands-on support to Grounds Assistants and volunteers.
  • Coordinate mowing, edging, planting, pruning, debris removal, and seasonal landscaping work.
  • Ensure tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with campus landscaping standards.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Director of Facilities regarding priorities, projects, and resource needs.
  • Train and support team members while promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Maintain Beautiful and Healthy Landscapes Assist with maintaining and implementing the campus Landscape Master Plan.
  • Execute landscape beautification programs and campus improvement projects.
  • Purchase plants, trees, flowers, fertilizers, pesticides, and other materials with approval.
  • Schedule and oversee lawn treatments, pesticide application, pruning programs, and seasonal landscape care.
  • Monitor plant health and address issues such as pests, disease, or environmental stress.
  • Plant flowers and trees, lay mulch, seed or reseed lawns, weed planting beds, trim hedges, and remove debris.
  • Maintain clean, attractive, and safe walkways, lawns, and landscaped areas throughout campus.
  • Support Seasonal and Winter Operations Plan and assist with snow and ice removal for all roads, sidewalks, and parking areas.
  • Prepare grounds for seasonal changes, including planting cycles and storage of bulbs and materials.
  • Ensure campus grounds remain safe and accessible for residents, staff, and visitors year-round.
  • Maintain Equipment and Grounds Facilities Perform and oversee preventive maintenance for grounds equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, carts, snow removal equipment, and small engines.
  • Conduct routine inspections, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation.
  • Coordinate major equipment repairs with outside vendors when needed.
  • Maintain service logs and records for all equipment.
  • Keep the Grounds Shop organized, clean, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Documentation, Safety, and Compliance Document work orders, preventive maintenance, and repairs using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals, pesticides, fuels, and equipment.
  • Follow and enforce all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Promote a safe environment for staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers.
