About The Position

The Groundskeeping Supervisor plans and supervises the grounds maintenance functions and staff of a designated area of campus. This role involves supervising Groundskeepers, Laborers, Equipment Operators, and other classified, temporary, or student employees engaged in groundskeeping and subspecialty activities. The supervisor has the authority to exercise independent judgment in planning and directing work activities, assigning duties, and monitoring work performance. Responsibilities include interviewing job applicants, conducting performance evaluations, and recommending personnel actions such as hiring and termination. The supervisor also communicates policies, resolves employee concerns, and maintains records of work hours and performance. Additionally, the supervisor plans daily groundskeeping activities, inspects completed work, and directs the cultivation of turf, trees, shrubs, and flowers. The role may also involve supervising snow and ice removal and maintaining inventory records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal coursework in horticulture and/or agronomy and turf management.
  • Minimum of two years of groundskeeping experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with proper endorsements.
  • Pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain during probationary period.

  • Experience in sports turf maintenance.

  • Plans daily groundskeeping and subspecialty activities.
  • Inspects completed work and directs the cultivation of plants.
  • Supervises snow and ice removal and maintains outdoor athletic facilities.
  • Maintains inventory records and requisitions supplies and equipment.
