This position is based at Warm Springs Wildlife Management Area but covers sites throughout the Upper Clark Fork Basin. This is a permanent seasonal position full time 40 hours a week from April to early October then part time hours through the winter. Warm Springs WMA is located near the cities of Anaconda and Butte; both have a rich history and many outdoor recreational opportunities. This position offers the opportunity to work outside on some of Montana's most diverse Fishing Access Sites (FAS's). The Groundskeeper position is part of the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division and a member of the regional maintenance team that includes the Regional Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Team Supervisor, Maintenance Workers 1 & 2, and Groundskeepers. The position reports to the Maintenance Team Supervisor in an assigned geographic area and performs a wide variety of semi-skilled or manual work. This will include the upkeep of fishing access sites throughout the Upper Clark Fork Basin. This position may be assigned to multiple geographic units or be called upon to assist with, collaborate on, or share maintenance functions of another geographic unit as circumstances require. The position will consist of a schedule varying throughout the year that generally looks like July 1st – Oct. 3rd, 2025 @ 80 Hrs. X 7 Pay Periods Oct. 6th – May 3rd, 2026 @ 40 Hrs. X 15 Pay periods (two Pay periods at 20 Hrs.) May 5th – June 30th, 2026 @ 80 Hrs. X 4 Pay Periods This position is funded through a grant. In the event that the funding ends or is not sufficient to continue your employment, your employment may be terminated without cause. Specific Job Information: This position is a Groundskeeper position that provides daily FAS site cleaning and maintenance at Warm Springs Ponds, Stuart Mill Bay, Racetrack Pond, Kohrs Bend, Little Blackfoot, Gold creek, West Slope and when needed Bearmouth and Beavertail hill pond. The duties of this position will vary depending upon conditions but will generally be required to perform basic maintenance and janitorial duties on Fishing Access Sites, grounds and facilities, collect fees, grounds upkeep and maintenance, clean latrines, clean and maintain all individual campsites, assist in other routine FAS responsibilities as needed and other duties as assigned. General public interface will be constant and demanding, incumbent needs to be socially prepared with good communication skills.

Requirements

  • Incumbent should have the knowledge and skills to work with various types of hand tools and equipment.
  • Must have the interest and ability to work with the general public.
  • Ability to safely follow all traffic and state laws and ability to tow trailer with proper towing and safety protocols.
  • Participates in and if qualified, provides training in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Should have a good grasp of the general information about each FWP site and surrounding area that the incumbent will be responsible for and the ability to communicate this to the public.
  • Must be able to carry out assigned tasks with little supervision.
  • Must behave ethically and appropriately when serving visitors.
  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a high school diploma or equivalency. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities
