About The Position

This is work performing landscape maintenance duties including, but not restricted to trash collection, maintenance of indoor and outdoor public areas including courtyards, postal areas, dumpster areas and Housing areas proper.

Requirements

  • Completion of ninth (9th) grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • Some positions may require possession of a classified driver’s license appropriate to a type of vehicle operated.
  • This position requires a background check.
  • In conjunction with the University's policy, this position may also require a credit check.
  • The holder of this position is designated as a “Responsible Employee” pursuant to their role under Title IX. Therefore, the incumbent must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse by or against any student, employee, contractor, or visitor to the University’s Title IX Administrator or any divisional Title IX Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and Trash Removal Daily empty trash containers located in Housing areas, clean ash cans and empty.
  • Maintain the courtyard by removing any trash or debris.
  • Keep the dumpster/recycling area clean and maintained.
  • Remove any trash or debris from the courtyards, stairwells in and around the Housing Area.
  • As directed, clean the outdoor cooking grills.
  • As directed, use the “leaf blower” to clean debris from the A/C units.
  • As directed, use the gas-powered vacuum to maintain the courtyards and parking lots.
  • Edge all sidewalks, borders, parking lots, curbs & other permanent turf-adjoining surfaces throughout campus
  • Weed eat areas where no mower can reach
  • Check for proper fluid levels & operation before each use
  • Wear eye & hearing protection
  • Clean equipment when work is complete
  • Possess the ability to carry a weed eater or blower for period of time
  • Weed plant beds throughout the housing areas
  • Rework soil in plant beds as needed by adding fertilizer, peat and other amendments
  • Mulch plant beds
  • Trim trees & bushes properly
  • Inspect the vehicle assigned and maintain proper records
  • Follow required PM schedule
  • Use assigned vehicle only in the performance of assigned duties
  • Return assigned vehicle to maintenance area daily
  • Assist in minor equipment adjustments and repairs
  • Provide other service to equipment adjustments and repairs
  • Assist loading/unloading/moving bags of fertilizer, pesticide & grass seed
  • Operate a sod cutter or a vibrating packer, checking for proper fluid levels & operation before each use
  • Use rake, shovels & other hand tools for finish grading work
  • Plant trees & bushes, lays sod, & mulch beds
  • Remove dead/dying/unwanted trees and plants
  • Clean up debris when job is complete
  • Possess the ability to control awkward powerful equipment when in use in uneven terrain
  • Raking leaves
  • Special projects/event work
  • Work orders
  • Assist with campus maintenance
  • Moving furniture in an area or between areas
  • This position is designated as a Tier 2 respondent for designated campus emergencies and events. In the event of a declared campus emergency, the position incumbent will make every effort to return to campus when directed.
