We are actively interviewing for a Groundskeeper & Facilities Support person to join our Facilities team, responsible for maintaining our beautiful 200-acre property in Mount Vernon which sets the stage for a magical camp experience. In this role, you’ll contribute to the grounds keeping, general maintenance, and upkeep of Camp. The summer work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday and with the option to shift to a Mon-Fri schedule during our non-camp season. Periodically, you may be asked to work a full weekend to support Camp Korey community events. The ideal team member will have groundskeeping or related experience and enjoy working outside rain or shine and have the ability to fulfill this very physical role. Experience with groundskeeping/landscaping equipment is highly valued including riding mower, chain saw, and hand tools. Some experience with a skid steer and mini-excavator is preferred. To support the facilities’ needs, having a background in home fix-it projects, building maintenance and/or construction will be useful. To be successful at Camp Korey you will need to be flexible when needed, have a “figure it out” approach, and most important be dedicated to the team who makes Camp Korey a unique and inspiring place to work.

Requirements

  • Ability to sustain 10+ hours of physical job activity which may require heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, balancing, and carrying.
  • Regularly lift 25 pounds with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule when needed to support a 7-day per week operation.
  • Maintains a valid driver's license required for operating transport and organization vehicles.
  • 5+ years of Groundskeeping or Landscaping Maintenance and repairs experience or aptitude.
  • Camp experience OR an interest in creating a beautiful camp environment a must.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with groundskeeping/landscaping equipment is highly valued including riding mower, chain saw, and hand tools.
  • Some experience with a skid steer and mini-excavator is preferred.
  • To support the facilities’ needs, having a background in home fix-it projects, building maintenance and/or construction will be useful.
  • Janitorial or sanitation and clean up experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Mowing large uneven areas with riding and hand-held tools.
  • Trimming, weeding, and blackberry bush control.
  • Ditch digging; manual and equipment; excavator and skid steer a plus
  • Manage Alders and tree line
  • Landscaping and planting
  • Maintaining structures, equipment, and vehicles, as needed
  • Supporting janitorial needs for Camp Korey buildings, as needed.
  • Interacting with campers to facilitate activity participation, periodically.
  • Working independently and with other team members to complete regular outdoor grounds maintenance and landscaping.
  • Using a riding mower to mow large uneven areas of grass, using a hand-held motorized grass trimmer to maintain grass and property perimeters, using handheld cutters to keep trees and bushes maintained.
  • Utilizing grounds keeping equipment such as an excavator, backhoe or skid steer for clearing and maintaining the property.
  • Planting, watering, and maintaining garden and landscaped areas to ensure a beautiful setting for camp.
  • Maintaining buildings which includes climbing ladders to change light bulbs and touching up paint indoors and outdoors to maintain a clean, fresh appearance.
  • Maintaining camp vehicles including; charging and cleaning camper transport carts and ensuring scheduled maintenance of vans/vehicles is completed.
  • Maintaining grounds around pool area and cleaning and sanitizing pool.
  • Small maintenance and repairs including landscaping tools, buildings, camp cabins and furnishings.
