About The Position

Oak View Group is seeking a professional, detail-oriented Groundskeeper to manage field and ground operations at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, MA , home to UMass Lowell Baseball and the Futures League . This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for maintaining a safe, high-performance playing surface and ensuring the entire field environment including bullpens, dugouts, nets, and surrounding grounds is maintained to the highest standards of NCAA and summer collegiate baseball. This role pays an hourly rate of $25.00-$27.00 Benefits for Part-Time roles: 401(k) Savings Plan and 401(k) matching This position will remain open until May 1, 2026. About the Venue Edward A. LeLacheur Park is a collegiate-style baseball stadium located on the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus in Lowell, Massachusetts, on the scenic banks of the Merrimack River. Opened in 1998 through a partnership between the City of Lowell and UMass Lowell, the ballpark seats roughly 4,700 fans with room for additional standing spectators, offering great sightlines and a compact, energetic atmosphere. Owned and operated by UMass Lowell, LeLacheur Park is the home field for the UMass Lowell River Hawks baseball team, competing in NCAA Division I’s America East Conference. Following a period without professional summer baseball after the contraction of affiliated minor league teams in 2020, baseball returned to LeLacheur Park for the 2026 season with the Lowell Spinners, a new franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). The Spinners revive a beloved local tradition at the park, connecting to Lowell’s community spirit and rich sports heritage while providing summer opportunities for top collegiate players to develop in front of enthusiastic crowds. LeLacheur Park is known for its engaging fan experience, community-oriented promotions, and location within Lowell’s vibrant university district, making it both a competitive athletic venue and a local entertainment hub throughout the spring and summer baseball seasons.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1-2 years of previous experience in groundskeeping, turf management, or a related field is preferred
  • Skills: Basic knowledge of field maintenance techniques and equipment. Ability to operate and maintain machinery and tools. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards. Attention to detail and pride in field appearance. Professionalism in both communication and work ethics .
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Schedule: May includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during the sports season.
  • Environment: Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

  • Education: Degree or certification in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Field & Turf Management: Maintain a high-quality natural grass playing surface, including mowing, fertilization, edging, aeration, topdressing, and over- seeding . Care for infield clay areas: pitcher’s mound, batter’s boxes, base paths, and warning track. Set up and break down field before and after games, practices, and special events .
  • Irrigation & Drainage: Monitor, operate , and repair the field’s irrigation system. Ensure effective drainage and rapid field recovery after inclement weather.
  • Weather Management: Track weather conditions and coordinate timely tarp deployment. Communicate weather-related decisions to coaches, officials, and event staff.
  • Net & Equipment Maintenance: Inspect and repair protective netting throughout the ballpark, including behind home plate and in foul territory. Maintain bullpens, batting cages, and other player-use areas in game-ready conditions . Operate and maintain all turf equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Dugout Etiquette & Facility Cleanliness: Maintain dugout cleanliness and enforce basic etiquette (no sunflower seeds on turf, bat/helmet organization, trash removal, etc.). Ensure dugouts, bullpens, and adjacent areas to reflect a professional and respectful game environment.
  • Grounds Crew Supervision: Recruit, train, and manage seasonal grounds crew. Develop work schedules and delegate daily tasks while ensuring safety and accountability.
  • Coordination & Communication: Work closely with UMass Lowell Athletics, Futures League team staff, and Oak View Group management. Serve as a main point of contact for field-related needs and game-day operations.
