About The Position

Under general supervision, the GroundsKeeper performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas. This includes the care of lawns, shrubs, trees, and flower beds, as well as snow removal and general outside maintenance. The role involves operating various machinery and equipment such as tractors, dump trucks, end loaders, hydraulic mowers, sweepers, aerators, skid loaders, chain saws, and a variety of power hand tools. All duties are performed in accordance with the organization's mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

High School or Equivalent (GED).
3 – 4 years of experience with High School plus specialized training.
Basic language, basic math, basic reasoning ability.
Proficiency with Word, Excel, Internet.
Must have mechanical aptitude.
Ability to read, write or understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing job duties.
Pesticide Applicator’s license required for all full-time staff, must obtain within 6 months of hire and must renew by March 1st each year.
Valid IA driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
CDL within 30 days of hire for FT & PT staff.

Nice To Haves

Horticulture degree preferred.
5-10 years' experience in soil and turf management, landscape design, and large snow operations.

Responsibilities

Operate a variety of machinery and equipment including, tractors, dump truck, hydraulic mower, sweepers, aerators, skid loader, chain saw and a variety of power hand tools, end loader.
Operates equipment required for grounds and roadway maintenance including hand held power tools, various mowers, tractors, construction equipment, snowplows and heavy equipment.
Maintains roadways and parking lots.
Constructs and maintains a wide variety of landscapes including lawns, trees, shrubs, ornamental plantings, and turf grass.
Maintains grounds by mowing, edging, weeding, raking leaves, and checking watering levels.
Mow and trim grass.
Trimming of tress and shrubs.
Mulching of flower beds.
Assists in the planting of tress, shrubs, and flowers.
Installs sod and maintains sprinklers and equipment.
Weeds, prunes, mulches, feed, and fertilize shrubs and small trees.
Picks up litter, garbage and organic debris from landscaped areas.
Clears public areas, parking lots, parkways and some roads of ice, snow or debris with the use of plow trucks, snow throwers, hand tools and light equipment.
Removes snow from sidewalks, roads and parking lots operating all required equipment.
Corrects or reports hazardous conditions.
Under supervision, prepares and applies hazardous chemicals for pest and disease control on trees, shrubs, bushes, and turf.
With supervision, applies chemicals to trees, shrubs, bushes, and turf.
Identifies and treats plant diseases and insects.
Performs preventative maintenance on facility equipment.
Performs routing cleaning, minor repairs, and routine maintenance of equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.
Attends required safety programs.
Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job.
Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations.
Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture.
Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved.
Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.
