About The Position

An employee in this classification performs work of routine difficulty performing grounds maintenance, landscaping and snow removal. Work is distinguished by the ability to operate college vehicles that require a CDL license. General supervision is received from the assigned manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of 2 years experience in snow removal, grounds and parking lot maintenance or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Commercial Drivers License with Air Brake endorsement.
  • Pre-employment DOT drug panel test required, with the ability to maintain compliance.
  • Good knowledge of routine vehicle and grounds equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of lawn, tree, and plant care and the ability to select the proper trees, shrubs, and plants to be used in various locations.
  • Working skills to operate various grounds equipment and vehicles.
  • Working skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Working skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Working skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain all grounds equipment used in the Grounds Department for lawn care and landscaping for the purpose of keeping the proper aesthetic appearance of the College grounds.
  • Monitor and report bulk salt levels and contact vendor for replenishment.
  • Perform parking lot and sidewalk maintenance which includes crack sealing, pot hole patching, spot replacement, sealing, snow removal and salting to ensure accessibility.
  • Operate and maintain all larger college-owned vehicles which require a CDL to drive.
  • Put up and change informational, directional, and parking type signs around the campus.
  • Assist in furniture and office equipment moves and storage and help with pickup and delivery of donations to the college.
  • Take college-owned CDL vehicles in for State of Illinois certified safety inspections.
  • Maintain required training, licensure and/or certifications.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information and adhere to applicable privacy laws.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  • Maintain an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers.
  • Adhere to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality.
