About The Position

This position is responsible to perform work on the college grounds. This is a semi-skilled position requiring heavy manual labor in the maintenance and upkeep of the college's grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities. This position cuts grass, loads and unloads dirt, gravel, trash and other debris including the collection and disposal of refuse.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two (2) years of work related experience in horticulture, grounds maintenance, or landscape architecture.
• Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.
• Valid driver's license.
• Forklift operator certification must obtain within 3 months of the date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Monitor College exterior property to ensure buildings, grounds, and athletic fields maintain a professional appearance.
• Evaluate exterior areas of College buildings for unsafe conditions and react promptly to remedy such conditions.
• Perform snow removal duties; remove snow from sidewalks and parking lots, and spread salt on sidewalks and parking lots during icy conditions.
• Landscape ground areas, repair damaged ground areas, mow and trim grass, plant and prune trees and shrubs, mulch and maintain flowerbeds, clean drains, and pick up trash.
• Load and unload dirt, gravel, and other debris or plant growth.
• Perform routine and preventative fertilizing/feeding of trees, plants, shrubs, grass, etc.
• Apply herbicide and pesticide chemicals to grounds, trees, bushes, shrubs, and lawns to control plant diseases and insects.
• Conduct routine inspections, and perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance to all groundskeeping equipment and College vehicles.
• Provide groundskeeping services to College sites as required, which may require travel to off-campus locations.
• Perform interior maintenance work when priorities warrant or when grounds maintenance must be canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
• Complete work orders and return them to the appropriate location within the Facilities and Grounds Department.
