About The Position

Bucknell University is currently accepting applications for a Groundskeeper I or II. The successful candidate will perform general landscape and grounds maintenance functions as assigned, including: turf grass management, refuse collection, snow removal, event support, pest control, and pressure washing. The Groundskeeper II may also serve as a team lead, assisting with coordination and scheduling the work of other groundskeepers. Reporting Relationship Reports to the Grounds Crew Leader Work Setting On-campus Ability to work in varying weather conditions Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm This position is classified as part of essential services. Individuals are required to report to work even if the campus is closed or has a delayed opening/early closing due to emergency/exigent circumstances.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Up to 1 year of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 2 years, or more, of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • Pesticide license

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or technical training or degree
  • 2 years of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • 4 years of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • Commercial driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Maintains turf grass on athletic fields and other campus areas including mowing, aerating, seeding, sodding, irrigation, topdressing, grooming, lining of fields, and treating diseases and insects.
  • Maintains and installs landscaping planting by pruning, planting, watering, weeding, edging, trimming, mulching, and composting.
  • Collects and transports recycling and trash to transfer area.
  • Maintains assigned equipment including sharpening blades, lubricants, filters, belts, and irrigation systems.
  • Assists with events set-up and break-down and moving furniture.
  • Operates small and large engine equipment such as chain saws, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, blowers, tractors, backhoes, and forklifts.
  • Assists with plowing, shoveling, and removing snow.
  • Coordinates and schedules work for groups assisting with groundskeeping projects and duties.
  • Trains, educates, and assists other staff members with mulching, weeding, edging, and leaf collection tasks.
