The Groundskeeper I - Mowing & Events position at Bucknell University is essential for maintaining the campus's outdoor areas. The role involves a variety of groundskeeping tasks, including mowing, landscaping, pest control, and event set-ups. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in grounds maintenance and knowledge of herbicide and pesticide regulations. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and may require work during campus closures.

  • Perform routine landscaping tasks including weeding, pruning, mulching, seeding, edging, trimming, and planting.
  • Apply herbicides, pesticides, chemicals, and fertilizers as needed.
  • Cut grass and maintain assigned geographical areas using hand and power tools.
  • Conduct general and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, including sharpening blades and changing oils.
  • Assist with event set-ups and support university special events.
  • Operate pressure washers, perform snow removal, and litter pick-up on campus.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards and employ safe practices while using personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support and promote the University's sustainability efforts.
  • A minimum of one year of grounds maintenance experience.
  • Current and valid driver's license.
  • General knowledge and experience in various aspects of groundskeeping.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform basic math calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform work in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Basic computer skills to use email and Workday.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Continued or continuing education in vocational training or related areas.
  • Pesticide License/Certification.
