Groundskeeper - Facilities Services

About the position

The Groundskeeper position at the University of Mississippi Medical Center involves supervising and overseeing campus grounds maintenance activities. The role includes planting, cultivating, and maintaining lawns, plants, trees, and shrubs, with a focus on maintaining the beautification of the UMMC campus.

Responsibilities

• Plans and supervises the removal of leaves, grass, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from the grounds.
• Participates and assists in planning the cultivation, pruning, spraying, and planting of grass shrubs, and trees.
• Coordinates equipment operations and maintains control over tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Assists in the removal and storage of radioactive waste under the supervision of a safety officer.
• Ensures proper care and operation of equipment; promotes continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Maintains records and completes applicable reports.
• Utilizes pressure washer to maintain cleanliness of buildings, sidewalks, trash compactor rooms and other surfaces.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of related experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of sprinkler and irrigation systems.
• Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
• Skills in operating light equipment including backhoe, forklift, tractors, ditch witch and scissor lift.
• Ability to withstand heights of 35 feet.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to withstand exposure to external weather conditions and airborne particles.
• Ability to work with or around moving mechanical parts and chemicals.
• Ability to plan, organize and schedule work.
