About The Position

The Groundskeeper/Custodian plays a key role in supporting our mission by maintaining clean, safe, and well-kept living environments across multiple housing sites in Quincy, Brockton and surrounding towns owned and/or operated by Father Bills Main Spring (FBMS). The ideal candidate is reliable, self-motivated, and committed to serving diverse populations, including low-income families, seniors, and individuals experiencing housing instability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • At least 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in residential, multi-unit, or nonprofit housing settings.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple sites with minimal supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Must be able to pass a background check in compliance with housing and funding requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with low-income, elderly, or formerly homeless populations.
  • Bilingual (especially Spanish or other commonly spoken community languages).
  • Familiarity with non-profit or housing-first environments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of building exteriors, including sidewalks, porches, and parking areas.
  • Supplements contracted landscaping and snow removal services.
  • Clean and maintain walkways, entrances, parking areas, and grounds.
  • Remove litter, debris, and hazardous items from the grounds.
  • Maintain landscaped areas, weeding, trimming, pruning, raking, and planting.
  • Snow removal and ice control during winter months.
  • Clean and sanitize common areas such as entryways, hallways, stairwells, laundry rooms, and lobbies.
  • Prepare units for move-ins and clean units after move-outs according to organizational standards.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, wash windows, and remove trash and debris from indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Completes basic repairs such as replacing light bulbs, fixing loose fixtures, or plunging drains.
  • Follow cleaning protocols in compliance with health regulations and non-profit housing standards.
  • Assist with event set up, take downs, and clean up.
  • Delivers equipment and supplies.
  • Provides light maintenance/custodial coverage during events.
  • Delivers and retrieves company vehicles for scheduled maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform regular site inspections to identify and report safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Support efforts to keep properties pest-free and free from biohazards.
  • Travel daily between multiple housing sites using a company vehicle.
  • Maintain records of work completed, including cleaning logs and supply usage.
