About the position

The position involves maintaining five athletic fields to create safe, high-quality playing surfaces for baseball, softball, soccer, and two practice fields. The role requires a variety of maintenance tasks, including aerating, topdressing, and overseeding all athletic fields, as well as applying fertilizers and pesticides safely. The individual will also be responsible for disease observation and identification, preparing fields for events, and operating necessary equipment. Compliance with university rules and policies, as well as participation in evaluations of adherence to these rules, is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance on both baseball and softball fields, including skin, homeplate, pitchers mound, bullpens, baselines, and warning track.
  • Aerate, topdress, and overseed all athletic fields.
  • Safely apply fertilizer and pesticides with various hand and power spray equipment.
  • Disease observation and identification, including identifying insects, diseases, weeds, and taking appropriate steps to eradicate problems.
  • Prepare athletic fields for practices and games, including dragging, laying out, and lining fields, and repairing rodent damage and divots.
  • Operate all necessary equipment pertaining to athletic field maintenance.
  • Access and utilize the Facilities Management work order system to meet customer requests in a timely fashion.
  • Safely operate university-owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Conduct all aspects of the program in accordance with the rules and policies established by Loyola Marymount University, the Athletics Department, all Sports Conference Affiliations, and the NCAA.
  • Complete all rules compliance information as required and participate in an annual evaluation of adherence to rules compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in athletic field maintenance.
  • Valid California Pesticide applicators license, or obtain within the first year of employment.
  • High attention to detail to ensure a finished product that meets university expectations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in athletic field maintenance, including turf, skinned area, pitchers mound, and homeplate.
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime when required.
  • Demonstrated computer competency.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $22.88 - $28.61 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
