About The Position

The Groundskeeper performs basic grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, operating utility vehicles, and using handheld equipment for landscaping. They assist with snow removal, trash collection, and the care of trees, shrubs, and flowers. This position works under the supervision of a Lead Groundskeeper, following instructions and helping maintain the overall appearance and safety of the campus grounds. Responsibilities

  • Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing lawn areas, trimming shrubs, and maintaining flowerbeds. Assist with planting, weeding, and ensuring the overall appearance of campus grounds is neat and well-maintained.
  • Snow and Debris Removal- Assist in snow removal from walkways, parking lots, and other campus areas during the winter season. Collect and dispose of trash and debris to maintain cleanliness and safety on the grounds.
  • Operation of Small and Limited Large Equipment - Operate commercial mowers, handheld equipment (e.g., string trimmers, blowers), utility vehicles, trucks and trailers and snow-clearing equipment. On occasion, assist in operating similar equipment to the Groundskeeper 2 position, such as larger mowers or tractors with attachments.
  • Assisting in Tree and Shrub Care - Help with the care of trees, shrubs, and other landscaping elements by performing tasks like pruning, watering, and monitoring plant health.
  • Assisting in Event Preparation- Support the preparation and maintenance of campus grounds for special events, ensuring proper cleanliness and assisting with specific event-related grounds needs, such as setting up areas for outdoor activities.
  • Reporting Equipment Issues and Maintenance Needs- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance issues to the Manager of Grounds and Horticulture and the Lead Groundskeeper. Assist in maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring proper storage and operational readiness.
  • Safety and Compliance- Follow safety protocols and best practices while performing tasks. Report safety hazards or potential risks to the Manager of Grounds and Horticulture and the Lead Groundskeeper to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Communication and Documentation- Communicate with the Manager of Grounds and Horticulture and the Lead Groundskeeper about task progress, updates, and any challenges encountered. Help maintain necessary records for grounds operations, such as equipment maintenance logs or pesticide application documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
