About The Position

The Grounds Worker / Safety Rest Area Attendant is responsible for the cultivation and care of landscaping and grounds around buildings and structures. This role involves performing various grounds keeping duties, ensuring cleanliness, and may include some janitorial work. The position is part-time and focuses on providing job skills training and employment opportunities for disabled veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. (Preferred)
• One year of relevant experience
• Reliable, responsible, and dependable
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and methods of landscaping
• Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed for a job
• Ability to operate or learn to operate various landscaping equipment
• Ability to lift between 25-50 lbs
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in inclement weather
• Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner

Nice To Haves

• Experience with landscaping tools and equipment
• Ability to work in awkward postures
• Ability to make repetitive movements

Responsibilities

• Perform various grounds keeping duties
• Cut/mow lawn using hand, power, or riding mower
• Trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls
• Rake, prepare, and lay seed or sod in needed areas
• Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes
• Apply fertilizer and/or pesticides to enhance growth
• Remove stumps, fill holes, and apply grass seed as needed
• Remove all landscaping debris
• Cut down tree limbs that pose a danger
• Trim shrubs and pull weeds
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance on grounds keeping equipment
• Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed
• Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer
• Perform minor custodial/janitorial duties as assigned by supervisor
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
