About The Position

The Oasis at Death Valley is situated in a lush, spring-fed desert oasis, surrounded by the vast and arid desert of Death Valley National Park. The Oasis operates the historic AAA Four Diamond Inn and Ranch, restaurants, gift shops, and the world's lowest elevation golf course. Both hotels are open year-round and feature swimming pools fed by naturally warm local springs. We’re hiring Grounds Supervisor to Live. Work. Explore. in Death Valley National Park! Job Summary: The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for all grounds operations. This includes all operations for the resort grounds at The Inn, and grounds at the Ranch. Grounds responsibilities include all exterior spaces of the structures to include lawns, streets, trees, sidewalks, hedges, planting beds, walls, lighting, porches, etc. Works closely and professionally with the Golf Superintendent and the Grounds Manager. The Details: Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Season Dates: As soon as possible on next available check in date (approximately three weeks) Pay: $22.50/hr Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays) Why the Oasis at Death Valley? Requirements

  • Minimum 2 year previous experience as a Groundskeeper.
  • Minimum 1 year previous experience as a Grounds Supervisor.
  • Knowledge of buildings and trades use tools
  • Knowledge of Irrigation systems
  • Supervisory principles and practices
  • Professionalism and communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions).
  • Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications, follow detailed directions).
  • Attention to Detail skills (minimize the risk of error).
  • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills).
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must hold a current state driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb and work from a ladder up to 40 feet from ground level.
  • Ability to travel over uneven terrain throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise groundskeeping staff and assign daily tasks under the direction of the Grounds Manager.
  • Assists with staff training and evaluating team members.
  • Duties include mowing, trimming, pressure washing, weeding, planting, raking, pruning, garbage removal, etc.
  • Ensure walkways, streets, porches are free of debris and pressure washed.
  • Work and support other groundskeeping team members.
  • Ensure that all Resort Grounds are maintained in four diamond quality.
  • Frequently inspect property grounds to ensure adequate detail and correct horticultural practices.
  • Work with Grounds Manager to ensure effective scheduling of staff to maintain grounds.
  • Schedule timely groundskeeping such as tree pruning, raking, trimming amongst other related tasks.
  • Take environmental awareness and measures that protect resources and wildlife.
  • Report any issues with irrigation system to Grounds Manager for repair.
  • Must be able to demonstrate professional and courteous behavior with all guests and employees.
  • Ensure that staff breaks are taken in accordance with California state laws.
  • Ensure staff are working safely and wearing proper protective equipment while performing their duties.
  • Ensure that all equipment is being maintained correctly and used safely and efficiently.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all employees are aware of the “Our Softer Footprint” Policy, Xanterra’s company-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) and their roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance to the policy
  • Other duties as assigned.
