About The Position

The Golf Course Superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance, operation and management of the golf course(s).

Requirements

  • Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices; a working knowledge of facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • Requires a high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
  • Requires knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations - including but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards and laws and regulations.
  • Requires participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days and trade shows.
  • Requires excellent oral and written English communications skills; fluency in Spanish helpful but not required.
  • Ability to apply agronomic understanding to carry out and administer turfgrass programs and procedures.
  • Ability to deal with ever changing challenges on a minute by minute basis and instigate necessary corrections.
  • Ability to associate cause and effect agronomic relationships in daily golf course maintenance operations.
  • Must have minimum two year certificate or A.S. from a recognized turfgrass program.
  • Minimum of four years of golf experience.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Trump National Doral - Miami from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and maintains golf course(s) and practice areas, equipment and maintenance facility, restrooms and potable water on course, open spaces, wooded areas, unused acreage and areas outside the perimeter fence, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, tennis courts, swimming pool and other recreational facilities, sod farm and/or nursery, irrigation systems, pump stations, wells and other appurtenances, other properties as specified in writing by the Director of Agronomy. Oversees construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
  • Prepares the annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of the above properties; prepares long-range plans and defines maintenance standards. Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain club properties. The Superintendent is responsible for inventory control and oversees the equipment maintenance programs. The Superintendent approves all expenditures and exercises cost control measures to keep, as nearly as possible, operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, directs and supervises a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining club properties. The superintendent has authority to terminate employment of subordinates. Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work. The Superintendent frequently inspects the golf course(s) and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
  • Plans all maintenance and project work, applying his or her agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the club's maintenance standards.
  • Monitors nightly irrigation applications, insect and weed populations, disease models etc. to maintain the course(s) in an efficient manner. Must be technically competent in agronomic field to diagnose problems commonly occurring in golf course maintenance of turfgrasses.
  • Responsible for keeping accurate and complete records, including but not limited to, payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, fertilizer and pesticide applications, any and all local, state or federal employee training documentation, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations.
  • Communicates, coordinates and meets with all relevant membership groups and committees. Coordinates operations with the Golf Professional. Responsible for maintaining safe and accident free workplace through training, education and monitoring of all employees.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the service standards.
