The Chatham County Detention Center has an opening for Grounds Maintenance Worker. Apply today! Perform routine manual or semi-skilled construction, regular and preventive maintenance, and equipment repair work. May serve as the lead worker over an assigned maintenance crew or County inmates. Operate trucks and a variety of specialized equipment. Maintain the grounds surrounding assigned County facilities, including collection and disposal of trash, mowing grassy areas, edging, sweeping, and blowing sidewalks, fertilizing and spraying lawns, shrubs, and flower beds, dusting for ants, spraying windows for bees and wasps, planting and replanting, pruning trees and shrubs, and testing and servicing sprinklers. Maintain parking lots surrounding assigned County facilities, including vacuuming, blowing debris, and patching holes. Operate various hand and power tools and related equipment, including bush hog, spray truck, chainsaw, and brush cutters. Maintain complete and accurate records of related work activities and ensure the safe and efficient completion of all work assignments. Use your communication and customer service skills to respond to citizens' questions and comments courteously and promptly. Must be available for emergency/urgent recall after regular working hours and on a 24-hour basis on weekends and holidays. Perform other duties as assigned.
