About The Position

Grounds Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining and improving the appearance of government-owned grounds, including parks, public buildings, and other properties. This involves performing a range of tasks, such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning trees, planting flowers, and applying fertilizers and pesticides.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to grounds maintenance work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Good physical condition and able to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the appearance of government-owned grounds by performing tasks such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning trees, planting flowers, and removing weeds.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of grounds maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other power tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment and tools as needed.
  • Perform inspections of government-owned grounds to identify and address safety hazards, such as fallen branches, damaged equipment, or uneven terrain.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as needed, in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Monitor the health of trees, plants, and other vegetation, and take appropriate action to address issues such as disease, infestation, or nutrient deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with other members of the grounds maintenance team to ensure that work is completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment used, and materials used, as well as any issues or concerns that arise.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the public regarding grounds maintenance activities and issues.
