About The Position

The Grounds & Maintenance Lead plays a key role in keeping Cedar Circle Farm & Education Center a safe, beautiful, and welcoming place for visitors, customers, and employees. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, this position supports the care and upkeep of our grounds, gardens, and shared spaces-helping ensure our production and retail environments run smoothly day to day. This is a hands-on, primarily outdoor role for someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in well-maintained spaces, and values being part of a mission-driven organization. From mowing and garden care to equipment upkeep and light carpentry, the Grounds & Maintenance Lead contributes to the overall look, function, and feel of the farm.

Requirements

  • Experience operating lawn care equipment (mowers, trimmers); training provided as needed
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail and pride in maintaining clean, well-kept spaces
  • Clear, consistent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working across teams
  • Ability to take direction and adapt to changing priorities
  • Physical ability to perform outdoor labor for extended periods, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and operating equipment
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
  • Availability for occasional early morning or evening hours (approximately 4–6 hours/week for off-hours maintenance)
  • Valid driver's license to operate farm vehicles on the road

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the farm grounds across retail and public-facing areas, including mowing, string trimming, and general upkeep
  • Care for blueberry patch, perennial beds, and orchard (weeding, mulching, mowing, and area-specific tasks such as edging perennial beds and pruning blueberries)
  • Operate and maintain equipment (mowers, trimmers, etc.), ensuring safe and effective use
  • Prune trees and shrubs to support plant health and site accessibility
  • Communicate proactively with the Facilities Manager about workload, priorities, and equipment needs
  • Support general site upkeep projects, including light carpentry, fence repair, and moving materials or equipment
  • Assist with event and workshop setup as needed
  • Collaborate with other departments on occasional projects
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment
