About The Position

The Grounds Maintenance Laborer is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of buildings, grounds, and roadways. The Laborer is also responsible for performing minor repairs of structures and equipment. Pay rate: $18.67 base + $5.36 fringe cash-out = $24.03. Non-CBA/Union position. Work Site: Onsite.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 months work experience in grounds maintenance with knowledge of ground maintenance standards, techniques and materials.
• Ability to identify and work safely with appropriate manual and power tools, mechanical and electrical equipment, to the task assigned.
• Capable of understanding and following directions from lead/supervisor.
• Capable of passing a background check for base access as required by the contract.
• Must be able to comprehend, read, speak and write proficiently in the English language.
• Communicate and work collaboratively and professionally on a team with various skill levels, and of various diverse backgrounds, and demonstrate good customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

• Possess a valid State issued Driver’s License.
• High School graduate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Cut grass using walk-behind or riding mowers (less than 2,000 lbs).
• Trim hedges/edges around walkways, flower beds, and walls using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
• Clean walks, drives, and parking areas by means of a landscape blower or vacuum.
• Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools.
• Spray lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicide, and/or insecticide.
• Plant grass, trees, flowers, and shrubs.
• Water lawns and shrubs.
• Perform litter and debris clean-up.
• Weed plant and ornamental landscape beds.
• Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, buildings, and equipment.
• May clean comfort stations, office and workshop areas, residential units, or parking areas by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing.
• May be assigned to assist with spill response team.
• Load and unload trucks and other conveyances.
• Move supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrows or hand trucks.
• Collect refuse and salvageable materials.
• Dig, fill, and tamp earth excavations.
• Level ground using pick, shovel, tamper, and rake.
• Clean culverts and ditches.
• Cut trees, and brush.
• Operate power tools such as chain saws, lawnmowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers.
• Wash, wax, vacuum, and polish vehicles/equipment.
• Move heavy pieces of machinery and equipment.
• Pick up leaves and trash.
• Accountable for meeting safety performance standards and completing all work safely.
• Responsible for the timely reporting of accidents, injuries, 'near miss' and hazardous situations.
• Responsible for minor routine maintenance to equipment used in their daily functions.
• May perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Accountable for managing and accurately tracking material resources and time, and adapting to changing work priorities.
• Accountable for tools and equipment within his or her possession.
• Using PPE when required.
• Daily cleaning of assigned workspaces.
• Timely, cost-effective performance of duties with the ability to be flexible due to change of schedule, work duration and tasks.
• Working closely and harmoniously with fellow workers.
• Adherence to all Safety and Health rules and regulations.
