About The Position

The Grounds Gardener will play an important role in the maintenance of Hillcrest landscaping other than the golf course. Under the supervision of the Clubhouse Foreman, he or she will perform routine manual labor involved in maintaining Hillcrest’s landscaping so that it always meets club standards for beauty and top condition. The Grounds Gardener will typically perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance of the landscaping and outdoor areas of the Club. He or she will be familiar with the Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals and pesticides used and ensure they are used properly and in compliance with OSHA regulations. The Grounds Gardener will operate small hand-powered equipment and complete small construction projects. A careful steward of the equipment under his or her care, the Grounds Gardener will practice cleanliness, organization and always operate and maintain equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines. When necessary, he or she will tag and lock out anything in need of repair and makes recommendations for replacement equipment.

Requirements

  • One year of prior experience in landscaping, including experience operating and maintaining a variety of equipment from small hand-powered tools to light motorized equipment and vehicles; prior golf course experience preferred
  • High school diploma and experience in a similar luxury environment preferred
  • A basic understanding of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf
  • Knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape construction/ maintenance work
  • Physical strength, stamina and agility
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • A service-oriented personality and possession of a pleasant and caring manner with everyone
  • Able to communicate effectively and professionally with all stakeholders; to follow oral and written instructions and to memorize necessary information; bi-lingual English and Spanish
  • A team player able to work well with others
  • Attention to detail
  • Exceptional grooming habits, maintaining a clean and complete uniform as designated by Management
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Able to juggle multiple competing priorities and meet deadlines
