About The Position

Grounds Crew with Additional Facility Shop Operations Assignments As Needed By District Category IV ($28.67 to $29.75 per hour plus full-time benefits) per current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Eight hours per day from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. - work shift start time will have supervisor adjustments for seasonal weather, daylight and workload conditions

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • MN Class B driver's license within thirty days of start of employment in the position.
  • Excellent work record. Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
  • Hold or obtain Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification or NPPS Certified Elementary School and Youth/Community Program Outdoor Play Inspector Certificate within 90 days and then maintain that certification.
  • Minimum two years of experience performing operation and maintenance of grounds equipment and installation or maintenance of site amenities and operations of grounds equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and skills to perform routine maintenance and repairs of grounds equipment, site irrigation and playground equipment.
  • Working knowledge or ability to effectively use the district work order management computer software system.
  • Mechanical aptitude and skills to perform service, troubleshooting and repairs to facility systems.
  • Ability to listen and detect noise related indications of equipment problems or distress.
  • Ability to effectively perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of facility equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and district standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to efficiently and safely operate snow removal equipment and to apply deicing materials.
  • Ability to properly use hand tools, test equipment, powered tools and grounds equipment required for facility maintenance.
  • Ability to fabricate, assemble and install components to assist with facility repairs and improvements.
  • Ability to effectively and safely operate grounds care equipment.
  • Ability to efficiently and safely operate and effectively utilize skid steer loader and tractor equipment for loading, unloading and grading work.
  • Ability to accurately setup and efficiently paint football, soccer, track and cross-country fields markings.
  • Ability to read and comprehend product and equipment safety labels, signs, instructions and operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Able to wear respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the designated grounds department supervisor or district designated supervisor as applicable for the assignment.
  • Assist other district facility shop operation crews including maintenance, and carpentry departments with district facility maintenance, repairs and improvements as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform assigned grounds department tasks including maintenance and upkeep for site turf systems and other site amenities including fences, site signage, irrigation systems, parking lots, sidewalk, playgrounds, tennis courts, tracks, bleachers and athletic equipment.
  • Assist with repairs and improvements to site retaining walls, planting beds, pavements and surface drainage systems.
  • Effectively operate grounds department equipment to efficiently and safely perform grounds maintenance repairs and improvements, including operation of skid steer loader for loading, material handling and grading and the operation of grounds tractors, trucks, snow removal/deicing, and mowers.
  • Perform inspections, maintenance and troubleshooting to achieve proper operation of irrigation systems.
  • Setup and paint tracks and football, soccer, lacrosse, and cross-country fields.
  • Perform material handling of curriculum, furniture, supplies and equipment.
  • Perform snow removal and pavement deicing activities and at the shift hours required to address snow removal and deicing effectiveness and needs.
  • Assist with facility setup and cleanup for special events.
  • Perform preventative maintenance service, troubleshooting, and the repair of grounds care equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, district standards, and guidelines.
  • Operate and utilize building security systems in accordance with district standards and guidelines.
  • Operate and use facility systems and equipment in accordance with district standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned area and equipment following district standards and guidelines for use of equipment and provide proper care and cleaning of equipment, tools and the work place.
  • Assist with response to facility emergencies when requested by the district.
  • Accurately perform playground equipment and fall surfacing inspection within 90 days and hold designated playground equipment inspector certificate from CPSI or NPPS.
  • Utilize electronic work order system to submit work requests and enter data in work order system to document work task hours, materials utilized and task completion information.
  • Follow checklists, complete condition surveys and report deficient or non-compliant conditions that require further action.
  • Comply with established timelines, procedures and quality for completion of assigned tasks.
  • Use work time efficiently and effectively.
  • Execute initiative in recognizing and performing tasks that need attention or that require completion.
  • Follow district safety standards and guidelines when performing position responsibilities.
  • Practice fiscal responsibility related to efficient use of materials, care of equipment, recycling and energy conservation.
  • Demonstrate skills required to effectively and safely perform skid steer operation within 90 days of employment in the position.
  • Demonstrate within 30 days of employment, the ability to effectively utilize computerized work order system to enter work order information, retrieve information and in accordance with district guidelines, standards, and policies.
  • Attend and fulfill requirements and utilize information from mower manufacturer preventative maintenance training classes.
  • Pass tests and utilize mower equipment training information as noted in Attachment A of this posting.
  • Participate in and pass online small engine repair class or equivalent as approved by the district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
