About The Position

Perform grounds maintenance, conservation, and improvement duties as part of a grounds crew. Support and assist grounds crew in maintaining, conserving, and improving grounds districtwide. Maintain and care for the appearance of grounds, trees, and shrubs. Manage a program of vegetation, pest control, and training in grounds keepers. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations. Essential Functions Supervise and assist in the evaluation of assigned grounds keepers. Oversee the maintenance, appearance and health of plants, grass, shrubs and flowers. Provide training to grounds keepers on the safe use of various equipment, tools and chemicals as needed. Maintain the district vehicle, vehicle inventory, materials, tools, and record keeping necessary to satisfactorily complete assigned tasks. Determine when trees and shrubs need pruning and trimming and provide assistance as needed. Perform various manual tasks involved in landscaping and site improvement, preventive and emergency work that relates to ground maintenance. Assist with the care of athletic fields and perform routine grounds keeper duties. Assist Equipment Operations and Sprinkler Specialist when necessary. Apply herbicides and pesticides in compliance with state regulations. Inspect and service grounds equipment as necessary to maintain proper operating and safety requirements. Be responsible for district vehicle and vehicle inventory, if assigned, and for materials, tools, and equipment, including making adjustments and using safe operating procedures; request scheduling of required maintenance and expectations and keep vehicle, tools, equipment and work areas clean and orderly. Cooperate with fellow co-workers and routinely report necessary information to the immediate supervisor. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job. Other Responsibilities Participate in professional development activities as required by the district. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • must possess a TDA non-commercial pesticide applicator license, category 3A or must obtain within 90 days of employment
  • three (3) years' experience in grounds maintenance
  • Valid Texas/New Mexico Driver's License
  • must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Subject to the district drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.
