About The Position

The Ground Water Protection Section Manager will oversee the Ground Water Discharge Permit and Underground Injection Control programs within the Division of Water Quality. This role involves managing program activities, supervising section personnel, and ensuring compliance with state and federal water quality regulations. The manager will also develop policies and procedures to protect Utah's groundwater resources.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience with project and/or program management.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information to varied audiences.
• Knowledge of the Clean Water Act, Utah Water Quality Act, and Safe Drinking Water Act.
• Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions based on scientific principles.
• Experience in performance management and process improvement.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science degree or other undergraduate degree.
• A Utah PE or PG license (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• Preference for candidates with a Master of Science or other advanced graduate degrees.

Responsibilities

• Manage program and activities for Groundwater Discharge Permits and Underground Injection Control Permits.
• Supervise section personnel and coordinate with other Division programs including compliance and enforcement.
• Develop rules, policies, and procedures to ensure the protection of Utah's groundwater.
• Conduct employee evaluations, staff training and development, and take appropriate disciplinary actions.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to advance Division objectives.
