About The Position

The Ground Paramedic provides patient assessment and care coordination based on patient age and developmental level, adhering to departmental protocols and standards. This role involves independently caring for patients during transport, performing tasks within the certified paramedic scope, with additional training for advanced care. Responsibilities include administering medications, interpreting lab results, managing airways (including intubation and surgical procedures), performing thoracostomies, establishing IV and IO access, and handling cardioversion, defibrillation, external pacing, and blood transfusions as needed. Care is delivered according to medical protocols established by the medical director, in compliance with state and federal laws. The Ground Paramedic must effectively use radio, phone, computer, and other systems to coordinate patient care, document assessments, and ensure patient rights. Additionally, the role includes safely operating emergency vehicles in accordance with all relevant laws. All duties align with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • State of Florida Paramedic Certification
  • A minimum of 2 years paramedic experience is required for hire.
  • BCLS, ACLS, PALS.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) within six (6) months of hire or transfer
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) required, or equivalent required within 3 months of hire.
  • Effective and tactful communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to comprehend and accurately implement written and verbal orders.
  • Knowledge of Florida laws and regulations for reasoning to both emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Ability to perform well under stressful conditions.
  • Proficiency in operating, maintain, and troubleshooting prehospital assessment and care equipment.
  • Competence in electronic patient care reporting, EBG transmissions, and using wire/wireless networks, two-way radios, and cellular devices.
  • Skilled in operating vehicles in compliance with state laws and industry standards.
