Ground EMS & Ambulance Operations Supervisor - Franklin Transport - FT

About the position

The Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation (CCPT) Ground/Ambulance Operations Supervisor provides clinical and administrative supervision for CCPT ground, air, and communications center operations, including Clinical Team Leaders. Communicates, organizes, prioritizes, leads, facilitates, and problem-solves with other members of Carilion's leadership and patient care teams to ensure the delivery of safe, cost-effective, age appropriate, and high-quality patient care services. Promotes employee engagement and service excellence. Position will be based in Rocky Mount, VA, but may require travel to all Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation (CCPT) divisions in Pearisburg, Lexington, Hardy, Radford, and Roanoke, VA.

Responsibilities

• Maintains all clinical requirements for a CCPT Intermediate, Paramedic, or Transport Specialist RN.
• Provides clinical staffing coverage as necessary to ensure operational continuity.
• Provides direct supervision of staff during daily operations.
• Works with ground, air, and communications center teams to resolve operational issues in real-time.
• Assumes 24/7 accountability for operations, including on-call assignments.
• Mentors staff and clinical team leaders to role model positive work behaviors.
• Ensures that the program structure, content and overall delivery of patient care services remains appropriate and compliant with Office of EMS regulations and internal policies/protocols.
• Acts as a clinical resource and internal educator/content expert, provides individual instruction or remediation as needed.
• Effectively leads the conflict resolution and service recovery process.
• Identifies and resolves customer service issues to ensure the mission, vision and guiding principles of Carilion Clinic.
• Demonstrates effective team building and leadership skills, including active listening, facilitating employee work groups and committees, and emotional intelligence.
• Annually develops and implements a base specific employee engagement action plan.
• Responsible for hiring, performance appraisals, payroll management/timekeeping, coaching and corrective action of staff in conjunction with Manager.
• Communicates regularly with Manager and Director.
• Actively participates in safety, quality, and education committees.
• Communicates key messages to staff via written and verbal communication.
• Coordinates and leads special projects as assigned to support the goals and objectives of CCPT.
• Demonstrates accountability, follow-through, and loop closure in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Education: Associate's degree or 2 years of equivalent experience required.
• Experience: 1 year in Emergency Medical Services or a 911 dispatch or flight operations center required.
• Licensure, certification, and/or registration: American Heart Association Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider (AHA BLS -HCP) required within 3 months of hire.
• License/Certification is required, based upon division.
• Ground/EMS Divisions: Virginia Intermediate or Paramedic required.
• ACLS, PALS, Haz-Mat awareness, NRP, and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from date of hire.
• Must be proficient with keyboarding/typing and the use of software applications including Microsoft Windows.
• Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
• Consistently demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and role models the CCPT code of behavior.
