About The Position
The Laboratory Technician I-II/Grossing Technologist is responsible for performing daily laboratory activities related to the receipt, processing, and preparation of tissue specimens obtained from dermatological procedures. This role supports accurate diagnostic evaluation through proper tissue handling and adherence to established laboratory protocols. The position also contributes to the education and training of coworkers, promoting consistent techniques, competency, and best practices within the laboratory. In addition, the Grossing Technologist/Laboratory Technologist will actively participate in quality assurance activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement of laboratory processes. The role requires attention to detail, effective communication, and collaboration with laboratory staff to maintain high standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Laboratory Technologist I: Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position or A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to two (2) years.
- Laboratory Technologist II: Five (5) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position or A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to five (5) years.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.

- Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, & medical terminology
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
Nice To Haves
- Experience entering data into an electronic system
- Experience using MS Word and Excel. Preferred experience will include developing reports, spreadsheets, and databases using the mentioned software programs.
Responsibilities
- Performs gross examinations, dissection, and description of tissues received in Dermatology and Oral Pathology.
- Workload is prioritized and managed to meet expected Turn-Around-Time specific specimen requirements.
- Tissue sampling, gross descriptions, and dictations are accurate and according to procedure.
- Specimens are photographed when appropriate for archival purposes.
- Gross area procedures are communicated to staff in a clear, concise manner.
- Compliance guidelines are applied to testing and reporting activities.
- Chemicals, hazardous waste, and sharps are handled accurately and safely.
- Quality Assurance data is collected and summarized for reporting as needed.
