About The Position

Summit Pathology is looking to add an enthusiastic, customer service-oriented team player to our fast-paced, growing pathology company, as a Grossing Technician at UCH Memorial Central Hospital. The Salary range for this role is $22.00 to $26.00 per hour based on experience. Hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 - 5:30 As a Gross Tech, you will be responsible for assisting our Pathologists and Pathologists’ Assistants in surgical pathology and organizational duties, including: Performing gross examination of simple surgical tissue specimens according to our training program Reviewing surgery schedules and patient histories Test ordering and review in the supported LIS- LigoLab Patient information access using EPIC Communicating workloads to the staffed Pathologist and PA. Routinely interacting with hospital staff to triage surgical specimens. Maintaining gross room inventory, supplies, cleanliness, and general upkeep. Practicing laboratory safety In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon Summit Pathology needs or requirements.

Requirements

  • An earned or associate degree, in a laboratory (chemical or biological) science or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution OR
  • Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination. Education transcripts will be required for consideration.
  • All work will be performed within the laboratory and in close proximity to electrical instruments, computers, and other laboratory equipment and chemicals

Nice To Haves

  • An earned Bachelor of Science degree, with a human anatomy course, obtained from an accredited institution.
  • Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS, or at least three months of documented high-complexity laboratory training, for each specialty test the individual performed.
