Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in science or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Technical experience in a gross laboratory preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, specifically understanding of Pathology
  • Excellent data entry, word processing, spelling, grammar and editing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and skill in laboratory
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work under changing conditions requiring reprioritization of workflow.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to use a high level of discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science or equivalent, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assures appropriate specimen accessioning
  • Describes gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens without selective sampling.
  • Dictates the macroscopic description for routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens without selective sampling, including anatomic site, measurements and dimensions, weight, count, color, and any abnormal findings according to written policies and procedures.
  • Prepares routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens for histology examinations
  • Escalates non-routine or complex surgical specimens to the Pathologist Assistant or Pathologist.
  • Archives samples after analysis and responds to inquiries regarding specimens from internal and external departments
  • Completes assignments with accuracy and in a timely manner without compromising the quality of the patient sample
  • Participates in training and ad-hoc projects as directed
  • Exercises good judgement in recognizing and correcting irregularities and/or unusual requests
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
  • Adheres to CAP, CLIA, state regulations, HIPAA, safety, and OSHA regulations.
  • Complies with all aspects of the job according to written procedure.
