Schweiger Dermatology Group is seeking a Per Diem Grossing Technician II for our Pathology Lab located in the Financial District of New York. The Grossing Technician will perform duties according to the Laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while adhering to a culture of compliance and safety. This role requires attention to detail, accuracy, and professionalism at all times. The position is part of a leading dermatology practice with over 400 healthcare providers and 170 offices across multiple states, providing medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology services with over 1.5 million patient visits annually.

  • Perform tissue description, dissection, and sectioning for optimal diagnostic evaluation of small uncomplicated skin specimens such as shaves, punches, and excisions.
  • Review specimens for completeness and accuracy, including site and patient identification.
  • Select appropriate processing times and special procedures for tissues (nails, alopecia, hair mounts).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems involving methodology, technique, and instrumentation utilization in the gross area/room.
  • Perform maintenance and quality control on instruments as applicable.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor supply and inventory.
  • Perform other histology-related work as needed (embedding, microtomy, block/slide filing) once properly trained on all related SOPs prior to completing any work.
  • Actively support and assist in implementation and monitoring of quality control and quality assurance policies.
  • Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with histology techniques.
  • Experience in large-scale organization or high-volume production environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with most major techniques for staining and special staining.
  • Analytical skills necessary for processing slides under tight deadlines and general supervision.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS.
  • An associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training.
  • Histotechnician, Clinical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Pathologist Assistant license is required.
  • ASCP HT or HTL Certification is preferred.
