About The Position

Grossing Assistant II - Sharp Memorial - Evening Shift - Full Time Hours : Shift Start Time: 10:30 AM Shift End Time: 7 PM AWS Hours Requirement: 8/40 - 8 Hour Shift Additional Shift Information: Weekend Requirements: As Needed On-Call Required: No Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum): $36.830 - $47.530 - $53.230 The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices. What You Will Do Provide accurate and timely processing of simple (Levels 1, 2A) pathology laboratory specimens.

Requirements

Associate's Degree
An earned associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution Or Other Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination. In addition the individual must have laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ASHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. Individuals who attended foreign schools must have an evaluation of their credentials determining equivalency of their education to education obtained in the United States.

Completes and assesses all QC procedures in place with indicated corrective action and resolution as needed.

Completes daily position tasks within expected timeframes to meet overall histology lab QA goal expectations.

Describe gross features of full scope of tissues for processing (level 1) and simple (level 2A) surgical specimens according to professional standards.
Prepare tissue samples for processing for light microscopy.
Select samples for special studies such as flow cytometry, cytogenetics, cultures.
Demonstrate proficiency with cutting frozen section blocks and staining frozen section and touch preparation slides, in a timely manner within the standards of quality.
Assist with specimen accessioning.
Photograph gross specimens.
Assure proper maintenance of equipment with documentation.
Completes processes without error using written policies, procedures and other appropriate resources; identifies issues in policies or procedures.
SHC corporate commitment to compliance training principles are correctly and appropriately utilized when performing assigned procedures as written.
Performs new procedures and policies within acceptable training time intervals; meets department turnaround time goals.
