Your Primary Responsibilities Under the general direction of the Pathologists’ Assistant group assigned Pathologist and the Pathologists’ Assistant Supervisor, the Gross Technician (GT) will be responsible for the gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens on their individual training checklist, including the dictation of gross descriptions, according to the accepted guidelines established by the pathologists. Your Essential Functions Performing frozen sectioning of specimens requiring an intraoperative consultation. Working with Carolinas Healthcare System anatomic laboratory personnel to ensure quality and timely pathology reporting. Managing gross room requirements (supplies, equipment, stocking, and cleaning). Digital imaging of surgical pathology specimens and slides. Neatness, cleanliness, and organization are essential. You know that this career opportunity is for you because you have the requirements listed above, plus the following skills and abilities: - Highly skilled communicator regarding specimen processing for frozen section, gross pathology &/or autopsy pathology. Attention to detail to be able to recognize important and sometimes subtle gross abnormalities with knowledge of how to submit these in sections to arrive at proper diagnosis. Knowledge of current computer software and laboratory systems. Work Schedule Train: 7am-330pm, M-F for 60-90 days Permanent shift (can choose 1 - all M-F): 1030am-7pm, 11am-730pm, 1130am-8am, 12pm-830pm, 1230pm-9pm Weekday scheduling is determined by the Lead Pathologists’ Assistant. Hours are variable based on staffing to volume.
