About The Position

The Grocery/Wellness Manager leads all aspects of the Grocery and Wellness departments to ensure an exceptional shopping experience, profitable operations, and alignment with Weaver Street Market’s mission and values. This role is responsible for ordering, inventory management, merchandising, budgeting, staffing, and compliance. The Grocery/Wellness Manager fosters a culture of excellent customer service, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and serves as a key member of the store leadership team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in grocery, wellness, or related retail operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and inventory or Point of Sale systems
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification if required by location
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • A working knowledge of English is required for this customer-facing role

Nice To Haves

  • Some college education, especially in Business or a related field or equivalent experience
  • At least 1 year of management experience
  • Experience with finance and cost accounting, including margin analysis and sales per labor hour
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and/or Paycom applications
  • Knowledge of natural foods and wellness products
  • Prior experience in a cooperative or mission-driven retail environment
  • Familiarity with merchandising and seasonal planning

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily operations of the Grocery and Wellness departments, including packaged grocery, wellness, refrigerated, and frozen products.
  • Oversee scheduling, staffing, ordering, receiving, stocking, merchandising, and customer service.
  • Monitor department financial health and take appropriate action to meet goals for margin, sales per labor hour, and other key performance indicators.
  • Analyze data and trends, make business adjustments, and collaborate with other departments.
  • Hire, train, coach, supervise, and develop staff.
  • Set clear goals and expectations, provide regular feedback, and complete performance appraisals and other personnel actions in a timely manner.
  • Work sales floor shifts to maintain operations and support staff.
  • Resolve customer concerns and solicit input to improve the shopping experience.
  • Ensure excellent service standards and adherence to our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion co-op values and policies.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety, food safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor department conditions to ensure safe and sanitary work and shopping environments.
  • Partner with Merchandising on promotional displays, end caps, and seasonal planning.
  • Identify and recommend new products and services that align with customer needs and co-op product policy.
  • Foster a positive team environment built on trust, respect, and open communication.
  • Promote cross-training and staff development to support flexibility and career growth for employees.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty, including store opening and closing procedures and overall operations.
  • Use Microsoft Teams to check department messages, store/unit updates, and co-op-wide news.
  • Post, respond, and moderate as needed to support clear and respectful communication among all employees.
  • Provide written and verbal reports, updates, and communications for staff knowledge and understanding.
  • Actively participate in management meetings, retreats, and store meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Weaver Street Market and its mission.
