About The Position

The Grocery Manager oversees the daily operations, merchandising, ordering, and inventory performance of the Grocery Department. This role is responsible for maximizing sales, achieving labor and shrink targets, maintaining excellent store conditions, and delivering a strong customer service experience. The Grocery Manager trains, coaches, and directs department associates to ensure full compliance with company standards, policies, and operational expectations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework preferred.
  • 2–4 years of retail grocery experience required, including prior supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong understanding of grocery operations, merchandising, receiving, and product handling.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, ordering platforms, and basic Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to analyze sales, margin, labor, and shrink reports to improve department performance.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a focus on safety, service, and operational excellence.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and repetitive arm/hand movement.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures including coolers, freezers, and dry storage.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Exposure to equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, safety cutters, balers, and cleaning supplies.
  • Good attendance and schedule flexibility required.
  • Must follow all safety, food safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Must adhere to Company Code of Business Conduct and all compliance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an enthusiastic, customer‑focused environment; ensure friendly, efficient service throughout the department.
  • Resolve customer questions, concerns, and requests promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure customer-facing areas are clean, organized, safe, and fully stocked.
  • Lead by example in service, safety, merchandising, and store standards.
  • Provide clear daily direction to department associates to support sales and service goals.
  • Execute all division merchandising plans, weekly ad sets, schematics, and promotional programs.
  • Maintain full, fresh, and clean department conditions at all times, including forward-facing, blocking, and rotation.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, operational procedures, and merchandising standards.
  • Prepare the department for major events, seasonal transitions, sales plans, and display resets.
  • Oversee ordering, receiving, stocking, and backroom organization according to established guidelines.
  • Order product accurately to maintain in‑stock conditions while meeting shrink and inventory targets.
  • Ensure proper product rotation (FIFO), code date checks, and removal of out‑of‑code items.
  • Maintain safe storage, handling, and merchandising of all products in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Conduct regular department inspections to ensure compliance with sanitation, labeling, temperature logs, and safety procedures.
  • Resolve inventory discrepancies and support quarterly/periodic physical inventory counts.
  • Create and maintain weekly schedules that meet business needs while staying within labor targets.
  • Train, supervise, and coach department associates; provide consistent feedback and accountability.
  • Complete administrative tasks including transfers, markdowns, production logs, incident reports, and ordering documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records in adherence with labor laws, time clock policies, and company guidelines.
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and training new associates.
  • Identify performance issues and provide coaching, documentation, or recommendations for further action.
  • Support associate development through cross‑training, coaching, and delegation.
  • Foster a positive work environment built on teamwork, respect, communication, and accountability.
