About The Position

The Assistant Grocery Manager at Tom Thumb is responsible for supporting the Grocery Manager in ensuring excellent customer service and maintaining a fresh inventory. This role involves overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. The Assistant Grocery Manager plays a key role in enhancing customer satisfaction and operational efficiency within the grocery department.

Requirements

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic math skills and knowledge of weights and measures.
• Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to approximately 50 lbs.
• Knowledge of product variety, perishability, and handling standards.
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitious arm movements.

Responsibilities

• Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly customer service.
• Assists customers by making product suggestions and engages in suggestive selling techniques.
• Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately and resolves customer complaints as needed.
• Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
• Assists with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes.
• Builds grocery displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled products.
• Ensures cleanliness of work area and department, implementing effective promotional displays.
• Assists with coordinating grocery sales promotions and ensures merchandise is correctly priced and displayed.
• Monitors employee productivity and may schedule employees for adequate coverage.
• Trains employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
• Prepares sales and inventory reports and controls inventory levels according to division directives.
• Supervises the processing of reclamation and maintains orderly conditions in the grocery department areas.
• Operates related equipment such as pallet jacks and hand trucks, and performs receiving duties.
