The Grocery Department Leader is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while overseeing all functions and activities within the grocery department. This role emphasizes maintaining a safe and clean environment, supporting daily grocery operations, and fostering a culture of customer-first service among associates. The position is integral to the success of the department and the overall store, aligning with the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

  • Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the grocery department.
  • Support the day-to-day functions of grocery operations.

  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process.
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
  • Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget, profit and loss reviews, and take appropriate action on all financial reports.
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Implement the period promotional plan for the department.
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
  • Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management.
  • Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Any management experience
  • 1 year of grocery retail experience
