About The Position

The Grocery Clerk plays a key role in maintaining an organized and customer-friendly environment within the retail setting. This position involves stocking merchandise, assisting customers, ensuring product presentation, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the store. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic, excellent customer service skills, detail-oriented and the ability to work in a team.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent and previous retail or customer service experience preferred specifically in a grocery setting; or any equivalent combination of formal training and/or experience which provided the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities thereof.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business data and effectively respond to the data.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from vendors, customers, employees, or others involved or associated in the general merchandise section function.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts relevant to the role such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
A valid health certificate or ability to obtain a certificate.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers, staff, and management.
Dedication to providing exceptional customer service and resolving issues effectively ensuring “Customers matters most.”
Familiarity POS systems and basic computer skills a plus.
The job often requires prolonged periods of standing and walking around the sales floor, assisting customers, and inspecting merchandise displays.
Handling merchandise, restocking shelves, and assisting with inventory management might involve lifting and carrying boxes or items of various weights, typically up to 25-50 pounds.
Tasks like rearranging merchandise displays, stocking shelves, or retrieving items for customers may require frequent bending, reaching, and stretching.
The role involves constant attention to detail, often requiring the ability to read small print, assess merchandise quality, analyze sales data, and make strategic decisions.
Mental agility, problem-solving skills, and the ability to multitask efficiently are essential.
This role might require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of the retail schedule, potentially leading to irregular or extended work hours.
Adherence to safety protocols and proper lifting techniques is crucial to mitigate the risk of injury in a retail environment that involves physical activities.
Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and is mandatory in designated areas and job tasks.

Employees are expected to report any unsafe conditions or incidents promptly.

Responsibilities

Welcome and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
Assist customers in locating products and provide information about various items in the store.
Provide product knowledge, answer inquires, and offer recommendations to customers.
Stock shelves, rotate merchandise, and ensure proper product placement and organization.
Actively engage customers to understand their needs and preferences.
Maintain a neat and organized sales floor by restocking shelves and arranging displays.
Collaborate with team members to achieve sales goals, maintain a positive store environment and to ensure efficient store operations.
Receive, unload, and verify deliveries, checking for accuracy and quality.
Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting discrepancies.
Uphold company standards for customer service excellence and product presentation.
Follow proper safety and sanitation procedures in handling food products.
Other duties as instructed or assigned.
