About The Position

The Grocery Associate is responsible for a wide range of duties to ensure the smooth operation and customer satisfaction within the grocery store. This includes assisting customers with product location, maintaining the appearance and functionality of display cases and refrigerators, and ensuring proper merchandise handling and organization. Key tasks involve cleaning shelves, rotating stock, checking expiration dates, and managing expired items for supplier credit. The associate will also be involved in setting up product displays, handling biweekly specials posters, bagging ice, and gathering shopping carts. Collaboration with the store manager is required for dairy purchase orders and receiving merchandise. The role demands careful handling of equipment, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and reporting any faulty equipment or hazards. The position requires a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to perform any other tasks assigned by the store manager.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
  • Ability to read at an eighth-grade level.
  • 6 months of experience as a stocker.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Advise customers about the location of the different products.
  • Make sure the lights are lit in the display cases and refrigerators.
  • Check the temperature of refrigerators, including freezers.
  • Clean the shelves and make room for the arrival of new merchandise, before their arrival.
  • Clean and organize the warehouse.
  • Rotate and arrange the merchandise in the store.
  • Assemble and disassemble product displays.
  • Check expiration dates on all products.
  • Organize expired items in the warehouse, to obtain credit from the corresponding supplier.
  • Receive and place the posters of the biweekly specials inside and outside of the store.
  • Bag ice and keep it ready for customer purchase.
  • Gather carts inside and outside of the store, so they are available for customers.
  • Make the dairy purchase order with the supervision of the store manager.
  • Receive all the merchandise from the different suppliers with the supervision of the store manager.
  • Return the misplaced merchandise to the correct place.
  • Properly handle all equipment, to organize the merchandise without damaging it.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Keep the work area clean, orderly and free from safety hazards.
  • Report faulty equipment and hazards to management.
  • PERFORM ANY OTHER TASK ASSIGNED BY THE STORE MANAGER.
