About The Position

Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of seventy employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need. Food & Friends is proud to be a nationally-recognized leader of the Food is Medicine movement. We seek a Groceries Assistant to work in our food pantry. The Assistant will: pack client grocery bags; receive and store all supplies, organize grocery storage, and assist with product rotation; assist with training and supervision of volunteers; coordinate preparations for grocery deliveries including printing labels and following up on delivery numbers; assist with inventory and ordering; and clean grocery and loading dock areas daily. This unique opportunity is perfect for a hard-working individual who enjoys contributing to the community and meeting new people. The Groceries Assistant will work a Tuesday thru Saturday schedule with daytime hours. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma and one year of work experience, preferably in a grocery or food establishment. Must be well-organized and able to reliably adhere to a schedule. Additional requirements include ability to be physically mobile, lift up to 50 pounds, and stand for long periods of time; good communication skills; basic arithmetic skills; ability to use a computer; and ability to work patiently with people of varying ages and skills. Offer of employment contingent upon a background check and pre-employment drug test. The Groceries Assistant pays an hourly rate of $21.64.
