About The Position

Responsible for grinding, sanding, and finishing objects of metal for preparation of paint. Uses hand tools and power tools to ensure a proper surfaces and edge quality. Inspect for flaws, cracks, and imperfect welds.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Able to read drawings and/or job travelers.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, or Hearing Protection.
• Spend long hours standing.
• Be able to hold and maneuver 28lb grinder for extended periods of time.
• Exposure to Contaminants (such as pollutants, gases, dust or odors.)
• Must be able to work overtime.
• Must be able to wear a respirator.
• Noise Level can be distracting or uncomfortable.

Responsibilities

• Lift and position work pieces, manually or with forklifts, and secure them on stands or on machine tables, using clamps.
• Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal work pieces.
• Wash, Bondo, glaze, sand and mask off pieces for paint.
• Assist with paint in cleaning tasks, and setup.
• Inspect finished work pieces for quality workmanship, cleanliness, missed welds, correct masking of machine surfaces and proper paint quality.
• Performs general housekeeping /clean up in work area.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
